Success Stories

Since 1969, Learning Foundations has helped thousands of students in San Antonio overcome their learning challenges and become confident and successful learners. Our message has always been that anyone with learning and attention challenges, including dyslexia, can learn to become successful.

Through pre and post-testing data for all our students, we have shown significant increases in their cognitive learning skills. But our statistics are really just that. Statistics. What we care about, what makes us come to work every day with a smile, is knowing we are making a difference in children’s lives every day.

Here are just a few of the many success stories we have collected through the years. It is our hope that one day, you too will brag about your child’s learning victories.


Our son Chris has his sense of humor back. He doesn’t seem to stress out when assignments appear difficult. He is eager to do school work and is getting up in the morning on his own.





What it was like before Learning Foundations

“Before the program, our daughter would take 2.5 to 3 hours for homework. It was a real struggle to complete her assignments. After the program, her comprehension is improved, and nightly homework sessions last about 1 hour.”

“Courtney has always had difficulty learning. Because her comprehension skills were so poor, she would ‘shut down’ and not do her work. Homework was gruesome. It would take her 45 minutes sometimes before she would even attempt to write something down on paper. She would blow her nose 10 times or sharpen her pencil for 5 minutes, and so on. Since she has started and completed her program at Learning Foundations, we have seen a complete turnaround in her attitude, motivation and self-esteem. Full Stories

When Haleigh started at Learning Foundations, she was failing 1st grade and struggling at a kindergarten reading level. She was discouraged, and this was affecting the rest of her school work and her attitude toward learning.

After starting the Cognitive Skills program, Haleigh’s whole attitude began to improve. She really enjoyed coming to her sessions. She had fun doing the work because it was different and made her think in different ways.

The biggest change was in her grades. She went from nearly failing to making A’s & B’s on her first 2nd grade progress report! Learning Foundations is exactly what it says it is, and I would certainly recommend it to others!

When Dusty started at Learning Foundations, he was failing all his courses except electives. He couldn’t stay on task – he would only write his name on the top of his English papers. He always said that he didn’t have any homework and never brought work home. He was a very restless sleeper, would never sleep through the night and would complain of tiredness and all kinds of aches and pains.

After completing the Learning Foundations programs, Dusty passed 7th grade and then earned all A’s & B’s on his latest report card. He even received an award for being the most improved student! After being in Learning Foundations programs (including Samonas Sound Therapy), he started bringing homework home, sleeping through the night, and his headaches are now few and far between. He started caring about himself, taking a greater leadership role at Scouts, practicing his violin, reading more and taking care of his body (he lost 8 lbs since beginning the program). Although we did start him on a different ADD medication, I believe the programs at Learning Foundations helped him tremendously by giving him confidence in his abilities. The staff is caring and supportive, and I would recommend the program to anyone who needs an alternative learning experience. In a nutshell – my son came back to me.

With Learning Foundations, our daughter Lauryn has made some major breakthroughs. The program has been a blessing to her and her education. Our family has learned to be more patient and sensitive to her needs because of what we have also learned during her training.

A couple of days ago, I picked Lauryn up from school. I noticed she was in very good spirits. She couldn’t wait to get in the car, and when she did, she said “Guess what, Mom. I made a 92 on my English test and a 100 on my History test!” I was very happy for her. It was a heartwarming feeling to see her that excited about school and her grades.

On our way home, I asked her if she could think of some reasons why she’s doing so well, and she said:
1. Because I can do all things through Christ, because he gives me strength. Philippians 4:13
2. Because my mom and dad helped me do it.
3. Because Learning Foundations helped me.
4. Because I worked hard.

At 14, our son Andrew was identified with severe dyslexia by his school counselor. He was placed in Special Education to develop life skills – they had no other program for him. He graduated high school reading at a 3rd grade level. He had no job, no driver’s license and little hope.

Then after months with a Learning Foundations specialist working diligently with Andrew on the reading and spelling program, he is now taking college level courses, and he has a driver’s license. Andrew recently took a test for the San Antonio Fire Department and passed on his first try! It was a timed, multiple choice test, and he took it with no accommodations and did the reading all himself.

Through Learning Foundations and his instructor, Joey was able to achieve or exceed the goals presented to him. He no longer sees his education as frustrating or overwhelming. Nor is Joey any longer the shy boy who walks with his head down. We were surprised to see such a dramatic change in such a short period of time. He is now an outgoing and enthusiastic child. We feel the results were so quick due to the personalization the program offered. It concentrated on his specific problems and did not waste time on areas Joey did not need.

My husband and I are so grateful that his program led Joey to achieve his potential. He was recently promoted to 2nd grade, and we thank God. We feel that it’s due to his new method of learning gained through his Learning Foundations experience. Within a short period of time, he convinced the school administrators he is able to conquer any other obstacle put before him.

In April of last year, times were pretty tough for our daughter Paige. She was having a terrible time in school. Her grades were barely passing and her self esteem had hit an all-time low. We knew she was doing the best she could do, but it wasn’t enough to make it in school in the long run.

When we found Learning Foundations, they offered us hope and a different way of learning. In a matter of days, not weeks, we noticed changes in Paige. In a few short weeks, her confidence level was very high, and the word “can’t” left her vocabulary. Since finishing the program, she seems to have developed a can-do attitude about everything. What research has shown is that cognition, or what we call thinking and performance is really a set of skills we can train systematically, and that computer-based cognitive trainers or cognitive simulations are the most effective and efficient way to do so.

The human brain continues to create new neurons throughout life. Exercise and cognitive stimulation can impact the number of new cells created in your brain.
